NEW PLAYER CHECKLIST

New Player Checklist for your next visit to Velocity Paintball Park.

It’s your first time out and you want to be prepared for a fun day of play.

CHECKLIST:
  • Cash or credit card
  • ID card or credit card for collateral
  • Clothes to play in: Jeans, long sleeve shirt, hat, gloves and good athletic shoes.
  • Clothes for the ride home: shorts, t-shirt and extra socks
  • Garbage bag, to put dirty clothes in
  • Drinks: water or favorite hydration drink
  • Food: lunch and/or snacks
Most parks do not require a reservation for walk-on play. A walk-on is any player that just shows up to play. You don’t need to be part of a group. You can bring as many people as you like too but you will be playing with other people that also just arrive for play. Most parks separate players by skill level. Paintball can’t really be broken into age groups because anyone at any age could be out for their first time. There are some parks that try to separate the younger kids into their own group if there are enough to play and enough staff to cover the group. Most often those groups come as a pre-paid party. Pre-paid is the way to go when you have a group of people that want to stick together. Make sure when you are making your reservation that your group isn’t just a group rate but a Private Party .

Things to be aware of:
  • Does the park take credit cards as well as cash?
  • Is there a dress code? (Some parks don’t allow shorts; you are playing a sport where you could be crawling on your knees)
  • Do you have to buy paint at the park? (You really should anyway, support form all of the players keeps paintball alive for everyone)
  • What extra expenses could come up? (Does the package you are interested in include everything you need to play? Do they have concessions onsite? )
  • You will need to leave an ID or credit card as collateral for any equipment you rent.

What to wear?
Loose fitting clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. Jeans or camo pants are most common among walk-ons. You don’t need to go out and buy a pair of paintball pants for a first time player. Wear a long sleeve shirt or sweatshirt over a short-sleeved shirt, something that isn’t form fitting. The bulkier it is the better. The balls will bounce off you better or not impact you as hard if there is some space between you and your clothes. A hat or beanie is good for protecting the parts of your head the goggle doesn’t cover.

Paintball parks are required to rent you a full-face mask goggle . It will cover your face and ears. Most will come with a visor to protect you forehead. The beanie or ball cap will protect the top and back of your head. Gloves are not necessary but helpful in case you get shot in the hand. Dollar store knitted gloves work fine. The park may even have some for sale. You want to wear shoes you can easily and comfortably run in and have good friction with the ground. You don’t have to wear cleats but you don’t want to wear something that might make you slip and fall. Bring a change of clothes (t-shirt and shorts) for the ride home and a garbage bag to put your dirty clothes in. The park might also have t-shirts you can buy onsite.

Food and drinks:
Most parks let you bring your own food and drinks. They will also have choices available to you. Most will have a full selection of food and drinks available. Check their website for a menu. Check to see if they allow alcohol. Most don’t. It’s best to leave it at home anyway. Guns of any kind and alcohol don’t mix.

Airsoft is a military simulation based game. Opponents use *Airsoft replicas to shoot plastic BB’s. Airsoft is similar to Paintball because it can be fast paced and requires being hit by a projectile. The difference is the BB’s do not splat on impact. BB’s are not filled with any substance that could mark the hit opponent. It is a game of honor. Players must call themselves out when hit. Airsoft games are also much more technical and most game play is scenario based. There is usually and objective or many objectives to complete a game. Games can last 5 minutes in CQB/Speedsoft or hours in scenario type games. *Airsoft replicas are made to look like real firearms and come in all types of formats from pistols and rifles to snipers. It is very important for parents to understand what their kids are getting into and to treat all equipment that expels a projectile as if it were a real firearm. The safety should be engaged, magazines should be out and breach clear when not in an active game. Barrel blocking devices are also required and must attach to the replica to prevent accidentally expelling a projectile. Full face masks are required during play. Eye protection must be rated for Paintball and Airsoft play and sealed to the face to prevent entry to the eye area.. Your nose, cheeks, mouth and ears must be covered by Airsoft approved mesh or mask or a baklava that cannot be removed during play.

White cake mix according to directions. Half of the white cake mix will be used for the green or pink. I used green since it was a boys birthday party. 10 drops of food coloring is enough. Use two of the egg yolks (leftover from the white cake mix) and one more whole egg for the chocolate cake mix. Save money and buy one chocolate frosting and two white frosting from the dollar store. They are smaller but it’s all you’ll need. 5 – 7 drops of food coloring for the green or pink. Use a frosting bag with the flower tip. Put all three colors in the bag next to each other so they all come out at the same time. This was a fun activity for myself and the kids. Let them be part of making their special day happen.

Compressed Air Tanks require certification in the United States and Europe. In the United States the DOT ( Department of Transportation ) enforce the standards set by CGA ( Compressed Gas Association ). In Europe the UN ( United Nations ) and EU ( European Union ) enforce the standards set by ISO ( International Standards Organization ). It is very expensive for manufacturers in paintball, or any industry that uses cylinders, to be part of ISO and CGA. This ensures safety standards for all when it comes to manufacture and use of cylinders. If you have a tank with an ISO number and you live and play paintball in the US you need to make sure your tank also has the UN symbol and the USA certification code stamped on your tank in conjunction with the ISO number. If your tank only has an ISO number it is NOT VALID for use in the United States. All of these tanks are still subject to Hydro Testing every 5 years and all tanks have a 15-year lifespan. Be aware of tanks made by Inocom, Luxfer and Carelton that require a 3-year hydro test and 15-year lifespan. Be an ambassador for our sport. Make sure your gear is compliant with United States Standards. Drop your tank at any Velocity Paintball location for hydrotest. Cost is $25. Out of state? No problem. E-mail denise@velocitypb.com a picture of your tank label to make sure your tank meets the requirements. Fill out the Services Form with Payment Info. Click the link below.
